Satellite radio uses different technology than terrestrial radio. Instead of relying on the analog signals transmitted through a ground based antenna, satellite radio uses a network of satellites to transmit data to your stereo. It has advantages, and can be a great solution for some drivers. Here's a quick look at the difference between satellite and terrestrial radio.
Signal Interruption If you've ever been on a road trip that takes you several hundred miles from home, then you know how frustrating it can be to lose one station and try to pick up another. Some areas just don't have powerful enough antennas to transmit the nearby stations, leaving you with static ridden music, if you can hear the music at all. Terrestrial radio can only work when the signals are strong, so in more rural areas you may not be able to pick up many stations.
Also if you are looking for a hand held satellite radio and price around $390, take a look at the Sirius Stiletto 2. This good looking, robust and extremely versatile handset benefits from the superior Sirius satellite reception for crystal clear clarity of sound. And allows you to schedule recordings and capture up to 100 hours of Sirius programs. With expandable memory through a microSD card, the possibilities are endless with this little beauty.
The Sirius satellite radio delivers over 130 channels of music and other channel, and the 60+music channels are completely commercial free. There are also sports channels, chat shows, special interest shows, and many more. For sports fans there is live coverage of all the NBA and NFL games, as well as the NASCAR races. This is an excellent piece of equipment that embraces the adage "you get what you pay for".
For $80 less than the stiletto you can get yourself the Pioneer GEX-INNO2BK. Small, stylish and powerful, and carrying the renowned Pioneer brand name, this model is becoming increasingly popular. It has a 1 GB storage capacity, large enough to hold 5O hours of music and a single charge will give you five hours of live XM radio or 15 hours of playback. One touch recordings of your favorite programs are played back through MP3 or WMA files. The 1.7 LCD display is full color with a pixel resolution of 180 x 180.
In America, for instance, the two areas concentrated on at first were the densely populated east and west coasts in order to maximize possible income. One satellite would be incapable of covering the entirety of the United States in that orbit.
In order to receive satellite transmissions, you will have to use a special antenna on your decoder. This antenna must be capable of receiving L-band broadcasts for it to be of use. These new antennas are a huge improvement on the parabolic dishes (similar to those used for satellite television) that one used to have to have in order to take advantage of satellite radio technology.
