When panic attacks strike, the physical symptoms can be unpleasant and in some cases frightening. Although those symptoms are often not actually detrimental to your physical well being, the feelings at the time can be distressing and have a negative impact on your day to day living. The actual experience can be more severe from one person to the next but attacks can result in shortness of breath, sweating and a feeling of not being in control.

So what can you do to deal with panic attacks and keep them from happening again? For starters, it helps to know the you're not the only one who has anxiety attacks. And don't forget that some people only experience a single anxiety attack instead of the regular attacks other individuals experience.

The first step in tackling this is to try to understand what may be triggering your panic attacks. There may be specific events in your life that have resulted in your lifestyle changing and triggered emotions that have an effect at a deeper level. For example, losing a loved one or breaking up with a significant other are major events which we may appear to manage well. However, suppressed feelings have a habit of finding their way out. One example of this is the way someone experiences significant grief many months after the passing of a loved one.

A professional counselor can be a big help when you can't determine why you are feeling the way you do. Finding ways to help you cope with the different phases of a panic attack is so important. As one of the major panic attack symptoms is shallow breathing, learning breathing exercises can help you to regulate this. Stress management and breathing techniques can help you when you feel an attack approaching and can even help to decrease its severity.

Make sure you talk to your medical provider if you find that panic attacks are becoming a problem for you. But bear in mind that you can use natural remedies to help you as well. Vitamin and mineral supplements, and also herbal remedies, may be helpful. When you decide to learn natural ways to heal yourself, you feel good about yourself and the possibility of finding a solution for your problem.

Don't be discouraged about your situation because you may be able to avoid future panic attacks. It's a good idea to seek support from other people because it may help you to recover quickly and in the process observe that other people can benefit from your experiences.
